How to Post Long Videos Over 90 Seconds on Instagram

Quick answer: You can post videos for over 90 seconds on Instagram from your computer!

If you are like me, when you post from your phone, you will notice that Instagram cuts your video short at the 90-second mark. This is frustrating — especially when you have spent time and money getting your real estate video shot and edited. However, by posting from your computer, you can post full-length videos!

Here are the steps to follow:

First, you need to download the video we created for your listing. It does not matter if it is horizontal (landscape) or vertical (story or reel format). When you get a delivery link from us, click on it and head over to the media section. You will see a download button — click it to put it on your computer. If you cannot find that delivery email, log in here.

When you are ready to post, go to instagram.com on your computer and log in to your account just like you would on your phone.

Below is a step-by-step guide (with screen captures) to show you how to post from your computer.

Step 1. Log in to your account on Instagram and click +CREATE

Look for the + Create button and select Post

Step 2. Upload your video

Click SELECT FROM COMPUTER and select the video file.

Step 3 (optional) Add images too!

There is a + plus sign at the bottom right corner. If you want to add images after the video, you can do so now. This is an optional step.

Step 4. Select Format

You should now be on the Crop screen.

Click the two diagonal arrows at the bottom left corner, then select the proper format to match your video — they allow square, horizontal, and vertical formats here.

  • Vertical – Select 9:16
  • Horizontal – Select 16:9
  • Square – Select 1:1

Remember that videos with text or captions may not display properly if you select the wrong format.

Now, click NEXT at the top right corner.

Step 5. Cover Images

When people browse your posts or profile, a cover image appears in your grid as a still image. This is a great opportunity to tell viewers what the post is about!

You can create a cover with catchy text in any program you wish, or simply “scrub” the video at the top right to pick your favorite scene.

To scrub the video at the top right, simply click and hold while wiping across the video frames.

Step 6. Do NOT Trim!

The point of uploading from your computer is to post longer videos over 90 seconds, so do not trim the video.

Step 7. Captions and hashtags

You can now enter the caption you want, add hashtags, and turn on other options, then click POST!

Step 8. BONUS TIPS!

Sadly, there are more options available on your phone than on the computer. After you post from the computer, open Instagram on your phone and Edit the post to access additional functions that are not on the computer. You will find options like tagging collaborators and adding the proper location, amongst other options.

If I create the video for you, remember to tag (@flyinglenz) so that I can repost it on my story as well!

Now you know how to post long videos over 90 seconds on Instagram! Share this post with a friend or other real estate agents who might find this information useful!
